MLK Day of Service

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, MedBridge participated in its third day of service project in recent years. Trading in our computers and phones for shovels and paint brushes, we ventured to La Cumbre Junior High School in Santa Barbara to provide a multi-faceted beautification effort on the school’s campus. The weight room needed a facelift, as it had been at least a decade (if not several) since it had seen a fresh coat of paint. We planted several new, drought tolerant trees and laid a fresh new layer of bark to improve one of the main quad areas.  We also refurbished the worn out hand rails by sanding them down and covering them with a new coat of paint.

As MedBridge looks to give back to the community, we seek to identify the places where we can have the most impact. Social responsibility is a key tenet of our company identity, with a priority focus on education. La Cumbre Junior High is located in Santa Barbara’s Westside, commonly recognized as the most underserved region of our city from a public services standpoint. Roughly one quarter of the Westside’s residents live at or below the poverty line. Therefore, when it came down to deciding where to volunteer on MLK Day the we knew we wanted to serve at this local school.

At MedBridge, our day to day focus is on helping our clients excel in what they do best, which is healing their patients. We approached our MLK Service Day with the same attitude. We sought to provide an environment where teachers can further excel in what they do best, which is leading and developing the students of our city. It’s our hope that doing our part to serve our city will inspire other local businesses to do the same.
